Final Fantasy XIV Coming to Xbox 360?

2 min read

Do you remember back at E3 last year, when Sony’s Jack Tretton casually announced – and lead the world to believe that Final Fantasy XIV would be a PS3 exclusive? Looks like his meticulous choice of words was for a reason.

“And PlayStation 3 will be the only console you’ll be able to play Final Fantasy XIV on, when it launches in 2010.” Sneaky bastard.

If a linked-in CV belonging to a Square Enix employee is to believed, the game will be headed to the 360 as well – and Jack Tretton’s announcement was one of timed exclusivity – something pretty much everyone expected right from the beginning.

The game has thus far only been announced for PC and PS3 – and the CV could well be wrong. Microsoft have always been bureaucratically at loggerheads with developers who wish to bring their MMO’s to the Xbox 360 – but perhaps the headway made by Capcom in porting Monster Hunter has opened the doors to subscription-based games for the system.

PS3 fans should still take gratification that Final Fantasy Versus XIII is exclusive to their platform of choice. It would nice though if Square-Enix weren’t so reticent about VS, and gave us a little more than what we already know – which is next to nothing.

Editor. I'm old, grumpy and more than just a little cynical. One day, I found myself in possession of a NES, and a copy of Super Mario Bros 3. It was that game that made me realise that games were more than just toys to idly while away time - they were capable of being masterpieces. I'm here now, looking for more of those masterpieces.
