Forza 5 launch trailer is pure car porn

Carporn

I don’t care for racing games – but I do love technology and shiny graphics. This launch trailer for Xbox One exclusive racer Forza 5 ticks both of those boxes, and tries its best to get me to care about racing, by making it look rather exciting.

The game is coming to the US and UK in just two weeks as a launch title for the Xbox One. It’s really quite beautiful, as the only Xbox One exclusive launch title that runs in 1080p  at 60 frames per second. It’s pure, sexy car porn.

The game is courting a bit of controversy though with its car pass; a Season Pass that supplements the game with six post-launch DLC packs of ten cars each. The problem there is that it costs $49.99, nearly the cost of the game itself. The first car pack launches alongside the game, and includes the hybrid street-legal sports car the LaFarrari from the fabled Italian manufacturer.

That it’s not included in the base game has some pundits quite up in arms.

Remember when they said games prices wouldn’t go up with the release of next-gen consoles? Guess why… because DLC has skyrocketed. Game launch price + cut content day one DLC price = full game price. Funny how that works.

ja. I really don’t like this season pass thing. They are just ripping us off. Take BF4 for example. R425 for the game and then R499 for premium. That is really just too much. How can you justify the content being more expensive than the base game?

But Doesn’t Premium give you access to all future DLC. lets say 5 expansion packs at 100 bucks each. not so bad?

Indeed, 5 free expansions and all those extra battlepacks.

I think the expansions sell for quite a bit if I recall ( +R200 each), so R100 a piece aint to shabby.

I understand it is a very good deal. But it doesn’t change the fact that we are damn close to that R1000 for 1 game. I understand the value of games (compare a ster kinerkor ticket for example), it just makes me uncomfortable to buy something knowing that it is “incomplete”

I think racing games are one of the few genres that are reaching that “I doubt it can get any better” limits. I mean now you can drive a 100% photo-realistic car that acts and sounds like the real car. The only thing they can really improve on now is the environments and looking at today’s racing games it’s hard to tell the images from real vs virtual.

    Amazing stuff.

Long time GT fan, But Also long time Forza fan. Forza took the crown in recent releases simply because ALL their cars had interiors. But, GT is kind like ID. Still, I am relegated to GT6 because I am buying a PS4 and their will be no PS4 version and I doubt I will be buying the Xbox one soon.

Forza feels more controlled. GT is way harder, I can do a perfect lap on the Green Hell in Forza, With GT, It is way harder. GT has raw handling.

Problem with Both Games, They are getting long in the tooth. Same cars, Same Tracks. After year in and year out of playing both, You kinda get sick of the cars and tracks……..That’s why a Game like Need for Speed Shift is refreshing, Its more Visceral.

    Oh… my… word… In the words of Jeremy Clarkson – “I think I just had a crisis!”

Geoff, you’re right – that video is pure car porn… And I love every second of it! I am totally sold on the PS4… But I’m also a massive racing game fan / nut… And this is the game that may just convince me to sell my other kidney and get a XBox One too… What an amazing looking game!

With regards to the DLC cost… I don’t agree with that! But if you hold out long enough, I’m sure it’ll be on special at some point (I got a ton of Forza 4 cars for free when they had a ‘thanks for playing’ give away).

and 1197 cars in GT6 which runs at 1080@60fps

Forza 4 had 300+ cars what happened?

Forza 5 seems to be the only xbox one game that runs at 1080p naively, I was still hoping this game could convince me to get an xbox one.

but alas no ways im paying full game price for 200 cars only to have to buy another 10 cars at $49.99

Where on earth do people get this info from that GT is running at 1080/60. I know apparently Gt5 switched to 1080p while in garage mode, but when racing it’s upscaled, and also this misconception of 60fps. Even in GT academy now, it’s nice and smooth, but go to in car view and it dives a lot, add a full grid, not happening by a mile.

People really under appreciate what it means to have a game that looks like Forza 4 on 360 still look good, have full damage modeling on cars, full custom designs and never, ever dip under 60fps. It’s locked solid. That’s quite a task.

GT its not a destruction derby its a driving sim.

if u want destruction play burnout or some other crappy arcade game.

Remember when we used to get stuff added to our games for free? Like maps and cars and stuff, they used to be added with patches.
I think this DLC bullshit started (for me at least) with the first Black Ops!

I understand if the game has gone gold the devs can justify putting significant resources into pushing out more content that can be downloaded. But very often the DLC is announces weeks or months before the game is released… WTF?

I think it’s become a case of “because we can” that they do it, and people vote with their wallets by buying it.
