Gears of War 2 sells 2.1 million units in it’s first night

The first sales reports are coming in and it looks like Gears of War 2 is doing very well indeed.

The release of Gears of War 2 was pushed back from to the 7th of November due to the US elections and so it’s launch stats were always going to be lower than expected however it didn’t seem to do it to much harm.

According to VGChartz it has already sold 2.1 million units and they are expecting it to increase to 2.5 million before the end of the week with a surge to 3.5 in week 2.

When you think that the original Gears has only sold 5.2 million in total you start to believe that Gears 2 will eclipse that by Christmas this year.

We will be posting more about Gears 2 throughout the day but if you were wondering, yes it is good. Very good indeed.

I feel that this one totally improves on the first one in every way possible.

To use CB’s phrase: it is bigger, better and more bad ass.

That was my article actually, and I still maintain that it’s amazing that Fallout 3 sold 4.7 million in its first week considering that Bethesda’s fan base is large but not nearly as large as the one that Epic and the Gears Franchise has. If it was an exclusive it wouldnt have come close to that.

That’s ture it does but spending most of the game underground really didn’t appeal to me for some reason,it didn’t feel like I was playing Gears of War.But must admit, the story is rather good, got a lump in my throught towards the end of Act 4 when you know what happens 😥

no – i think most of those will be sold to
bethesda’s bread and butter – PC gamers.

First numbers indicate about 1000 000 console sales in the first week.

Because it is a good estimate
Normally within 10% of chart track and NDP and very close to famtsu.
    It is out weekly.

Like all the above, it track closely to shipping numbers from manufacturers.

Yes it got it errors, but where else will you get the same.

Normally when software makers release numbers it s closely related to gvhartz.

I still refer to VgChartz because no one has ever shown me any evidence that they are unreliable. However when compared to ‘real’ figures they are nearly always very close.

from a more reliable source – like kotaku which comment
    on report from Microsoft itself.

gears sold 2 million so they are very near to the predictions on vgchartz.
