Gears of War 3 reviews round up

2 min read

The embargo for Epic’s delayed for that extra-polish Xbox 360 exclusive Gears of War 3 has lifted, and with that we get a flood of reviews. We’ve played it, and think it’s something special; the Campaign is infinitely more expansive and interesting than it’s ever been, and its new multiplayer options – particularly Horde 2.0 and the Locust-centric Beast mode – will give players many, many hours of awesome…until everybody starts playing nothing but Execution again; which is fine too. Veteran players especially will get a huge kick out of the revitalised Gridlock map that’s appeared – in one form or another – in both previous games. Gears of War 3 is nothing short of fantastic.

Let’s take a look at what everyone else thought.

BeingNerdy – 9..8/10
Giantbomb – 5 Stars
SixthAxis – 9/10
Destructoid – 8/10
PlanetXbox – 10/10
Gamespot – 9.5/10
Electronic Theatre – 91%
IncGamers – 9/10
GamrReview – 9.3/10
Joystiq – 5 Stars
G4TV – 5/5
StrategyInformer – 8.5/10
Eurogamer – 8/10

CVG – 9/10
Dualshockers – 10/10
EGM – 10/10

I think it’s safe to say that Epic’s scored a homerun here – and that Gears of War is, once again, the reason to own an Xbox 360.

Editor. I'm old, grumpy and more than just a little cynical. One day, I found myself in possession of a NES, and a copy of Super Mario Bros 3. It was that game that made me realise that games were more than just toys to idly while away time - they were capable of being masterpieces. I'm here now, looking for more of those masterpieces.
