Guilty Gear Xrd (2)

HEY KIDS! This year, December isn’t the barren wasteland of non-gaming releases thanks to a veritable glut of October and November launches. There are some great games coming out. Some big, some small and some in between like my gut after the traditional feast of Sandy Claws. But if there’s one game that has my blood on fire, it has to be the new Guilty Gear game. That’s right my lovelies, the Yuletide season is about to get messy with off the wall combos and special moves when the latest GG game arrives.

Guilty Gear Xrd Sign will be throwing down on December 16 on the PlayStation 3 and 4, around two weeks after the Japanese get the game. It looks like your typical Guilty Gear game, although rendered in 3D with the Unreal engine in a manner that alludes to its 2D roots. So the best of both then.

If you’re a longtime fan of the series, then you’ll recognise some of the returning faces. Sol Badguy and Ky Kiske bookend the regulars, with new characters arriving as well, according to director of production Frank “Bo” deWindt II:

Some of the newer characters include the unique and cunning, Bedman, who, like his namesake, is attached to and fights using nothing else but… A BED! And of course the monotone and lovely Ramlethal Valentine, whose swords, if used correctly, can really dish out some punishment on your opponent.

Recently two more characters have been announced, Sin Kiske, who employs the power of lightning as well as a flag to battle his foes, and the lovely and pure Elphelt! But beware of her arsenal of guns! She’ll give a whole new meaning to the term, “Shotgun Wedding”. She will be a DLC character, just for the curious among you. This brings the current roster to a grand total of 16! Plenty of options to choose from to find the character the best suits you!

As I said, I’m quite excited for this game. Yes, I still have to remain critical if I do end up reviewing it, but this has always been one of my very favourite fighting game franchises, ever since I spotted the game in a Pick ‘n Pay bargain bin years ago and proceeded to learn the core basics of this fighter. You could say that this December I’m going to get ready…to rock.

  1. While new characters are definitely cool, I’d love to see Dizzy and Jam return. …and ABBA. An…and Baiken. Oh, and… uh… you know what? How’s about I just say I’d love to see any old characters return 😛

Downloaded the demo that is on the JPN store, the game is unbelievably smooth with how it runs. Looks gorgeous and still feels like a guilty gear title, honestly it has the potential to be their best title for the series ever.

Granted only Kye and Soul’s arcade modes are playable but still cannot wait for this game.
