He made a promise to return in this first trailer for THOR: THE DARK WORLD

Out of all the films released from the Marvel Comics movie stable, Thor happens to be one of my favourites. Sure, it has issues, but what film doesn’t? Still, I love the damn film, from its sweeping Asgardian vistas to its massive battles in a small town just south of the border with Me-hee-Co.

And in the sequel, it looks like we’re going to be witnessing a fight for all of creation across the nine realms of the Yggrssadil world tree. Yes, I’m a nerd.

Marvel’s “Thor: The Dark World” continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself.  In the aftermath of Marvel’s “Thor” and “Marvel’s The Avengers,” Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.

Whereas the first Thor was bright and glimmering, this sequel looks a lot darker in tone overall. Sure, Asgard is a beacon of golden splendour as usual, but in contrast, Earth and the other realms are grayer and more muted in the colour department. But it’s also looking like a big action movie starring the OdinSon, with some massive battles ahead of him.

That on it’s own is pretty rad. But seeing Thor team up with his brother Loki to take on the menace of Malekith? I’m freakin’ sold. Thor: The Dark World is out in November, and stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins, Idris Elba and Christopher Eccleston, with Alan Taylor directing.

Hmmm… of the Marvel movies, although I liked all of them, honestly I liked Thor the least. Hope this one can change my mind

Um, it’s weird but I thought it looked cheap. Like, the parts on Asgard, the scenery looked like everything was just covered in gold tinfoil.

I didn’t say I hated it. Just out of all of them it was my least favourite. I’m excited for the new one as well, I think it’s going to more than make up for the parts of the original I didn’t like.

So you rate Thor lower than F4 1&2 and the first Spiderman’s?

No god no! Waaaay higher! Of the Avengers build up movies, personally I rank them: Iron Man, then Captain America, then Thor, then Iron Man 2. And I’m not even going to mention the awfulness that was The Incredible Hulk

Oh no, we shall not speak of that awfulness-ness

Those are not part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Anythign not part of the MCU doesn’t count.

I thought Captain America was my least favourite

I think I’m the only one I know who ranked Captain America higher than Thor. But only by a tiiiiny little bit

Must say that I also enjoyed Cap a lot, but liked Thor more (see what I did there :P)

Nope, you’re not alone. Cap was better than Thor. Thor started well, but faded towards the end.

I’m on the fence about them. I liked Captain America and Thor more than Thor and Iron Man, but I still think Thor is my favourite from the first 5.

Wasn’t that bad. But F4 and Spidey 1-3 was much worse. MUCH. Although not terrible. I’ve seen worse.

A movie is about more than its lead actor! But I will say, Chris Hemsworth is swoon-worthy.
