TekkenFilm

Film adaptations of videogames tend to be absolutely awful – and from the looks of this trailer for Namco’s Tekken the filmmakers aren’t out to change that. It does however look significantly more entertaining than Street Fighter : The Legend of Chun Li and the Dead or Alive movie, but the bar for fighting game movies isn’t set exceptionally high.

The film-makers don’t seem to have taken too many liberties with the Tekken canon which -  like most fighting games -  is absurd to begin with. At least it’s an actual fighting tournament, and there seems to be a pretty big focus on actual fighting and most of the characters resemble their in-game counterparts. It looks like rubbish, but at least it looks like fun rubbish. Nobody was expecting Oscar material here.

Trailer after the jump.

I really think that this is going to be what most people want. We don’t want some bonehead story, we just want the characters from the game to be in a tournament and have some kick ass fights. It’s the reason that most people still have a special place in their hearts for the original Mortal Kombat movie.
