It’s our second to last indie wrap up of the year. Can you believe it, 2013 is almost over. But there are still plenty of indie games to play and talk about. So many indies, so little time.
First up, we have some odd news about the poorly named ID@Xbox, the indie program for Xbox One. Gavin already told you how they have a huge lineup of developers who will be bringing games to the Xbox One. Apparently there were some issues with surrounded exclusivity. This was exemplified by Sanatana Mishra’s issues in bringing Assault Android to the console:
We haven’t signed up to the ID@XBox program, unfortunately we started work on our PS4, Vita, and Wii U versions of Assault Android Cactus before the program was announced and have no intentions of delaying those versions to meet their launch parity clause. In a somewhat ironic twist it seems having a temporary exclusive agreement with another platform from before the ID announcement actually helps your chances of getting a waiver for the clause, but we opted out of exclusivity to keep our options open and are now locked out of the program.
Microsoft is trying to resolve this, and Mishra has been in touch with Chris Charla, director of ID@Xbox who is trying to figure out a solution down the line. However, it still seems strange that there are still such issues in publishing on the new console when they are trying to woo the indie developers.
Quantum Rush, the German developed future racer that seeks to take on Trackmania’s racing dominance has gone into closed beta. You want to get in on the fun? Go get your beta key! Check out their trailer:
I also put some hard work and lots of love into updating my awesome Who’s Who in SA indie game development. So, go read it, go see how many cool local indies we have and show them support.
If you’re still looking for some nice bundles of indie games, go check out Bundle Stars – they are running a cool Indie Capsule Bundle, with seven games including Slender: The Arrival and Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet, all for $3.48. Other than that, not too many awesome bundles that I could find, which is probably a good thing considering my gaming backlog. C’mon holiday, I need time to play!
