Hearthstone (pronounced Harthstone) is the latest and greatest game from Blizzard. Although it’s still in Beta, it has become wildly popular and is already breaking into the eSports scene. Now, Hearth Battles is making it local.
Hearth Battles is hosting tournaments for South African Hearthstone gamers. There will be prizes and a full Elo ranking system. But wait, there’s more! Even if you suck at gaming, you can still win prizes:
At first all our tournaments will consist of all players of varying ability and experience. Once the ranking system starts to show which players are more experienced, average and beginners we will then have tournaments based on different skill levels. This is what we believe helps grows communities and allows the lesser experienced gamers to improve and not become despondent. We will still have tournaments where gamers of varying level will still play against each other.
I really like this approach. Often, it’s hard to learn and grow in the competitive gaming arena without facing a ton of losses. This is a wonderful way to climb the ranks, improve at the game and still have fun. Hearth Battles will also be publishing articles and opinion pieces from South Africa’s top Hearthstone players – get inside their heads and learn what makes them so good.
So, go sign up for tournaments and let the cards fall where they may. You might even become South Africa’s Hearthstone pro. Oh, and you’ll win stuff. So really, you have nothing to lose. Let’s support this cool local initiative – it’s great to see more people organizing eSports events.
