Kinect Animals – Gotta catch ‘em all

0 second read

So on leaving the Kinetic launch we were forced to hand in our alien styled poncho’s in exchange for a cute cuddly teddy bear. I just thought it was yet another bizarre marketing stunt but on returning to the hotel room and taking the jaguar out to cuddle.. er I mean inspect we noticed something else pretty cool.

On the back of the label is a large purple K which in fact turns out to be an augmented reality glyph, which if like me you don’t really know what that means is simply a barcode that Kinect can read and render in game.

According to the instructions you simply hold the glyph 12 inches (30 cm) from the Kinect unit and it will scan the barcode and render a cute and cuddly jaguar in your augmented reality game.

We saw the tiger ingame during the Kinect launch and I have to say it really did absolutely nothing for me, but then again neither does Nintendogs or Pokemon so somehow I don’t think I am the target market they are going for here.

Interesting useless side note, the label states “Project Natal Animals” on the front and the Xbox unit inside looks identical to the current units.
