Lore, magic, dungeons and possibly dragons! Baldur’s Gate, its sequel and its spin-offs re the stuff of legends, point ‘n click adventure games from another era that time never truly forgot. Is there room in a crowded market for the return of one of the most treasured IPs in all of gaming history? Developer Larian certainly thinks so, and with the game arriving next year people are keen to roll the dice to see what the studio is bringing to the table.

If these leaked screenshots are anything to go by, it’s going to be lots! ResetEra presumably slew a few dragons to uncover the screens, which show off a new camera that makes conversations a heck of a lot more personal, fancy effects and plenty of dialogue. Check it out for yourself below:

Baldur’s Gate 3 will arrive next year, although you’ll be able to get your Early Access kicks in later on in 2020 according to Wizards of the Coast parent and kickass Transformers toys manufacturer Hasbro.

  1. These screenshots remind me of Dungeon Siege II and now I both want to replay that and get my hands on this.

DS2 is one of the best RPGs every created. The first one was also pretty good. I actually need to try and play 3 again and see if it was as bad as I remembered. There was just so much content in those games. Lots of quests and secrets and awesome loot. They really don’t make them like that anymore.

But yeah I really wish someone would make a new DS or remaster 2. Not sure who owns the IP these days.

PS. There is a mod that allows you to play DS1 using the DS2 engine that I really want to try out. Actually been thinking of playing it recently because Wolcen just made me think of how much I enjoyed those games.

I’ve not tried Wolcen yet but have managed to get my DS 2 discs working on Win10 so I can play that again when I get home.

Three was a mixed bag and I feel 2 was the definitive experience. Hell, there are so many games from yesterday deserving of a sequel or remake that just won’t ever see the light of day. Hellgate; London is something I’ve been aching for recently also.

Haha yeah, at least some games are being updated/remade but yes my list is probably endless of games I wish would get that treatment.

I acually tried Hellgate London a few years ago because I enjoyd it very much when it came out. But omg it has not aged well. Sometimes I wonder how we managed to put up with the graphics and systems from back in the day (and it’s not even that long ago!)

I’ve got DS2 on Steam as well and I think that one works on Win10. There might have been some patch or something. I do however suspect that the graphics might be a bit hard on the eyes. It was never that good to begin with

I look back at my “original” copy of Tomb Raider on PS1 and wonder just how I ever managed to play games like that. I’ve become so spoiled that CRT monitors literally give me headaches now when I watch Binnelanders at my Gran’s house. Not to mention mechanics and systems that just aged horribly across games… but then again, nostalgia is a hell of a drug.

Still, some games are getting stellar remakes lately,RE2 and Spyro and Crash Team racing to name a few, and we are getting long awaited sequels to classics such as this. Gaming has never been worse with Early Access and micro transaction nonsense, but also, being a gamer has never been better with rock solid studios and passion projects like this to be excited about.

I try to focus on the latter.

I have been a console gamer for years, but I will build up a PC to play this

I am almost certain it will be released on console. D:OS took a couple of months before it was ported however I have a sneaky suspicion that BG3 will be released on different platforms simultaneously

I need to curb my enthusiasm for this. No way can it live up to my expectations.

Have no expectations and it is harder to be let down. I want to be hyped about this, but have to settle for cautious optimism.

Considering how much I played and loved the BG games all those years ago, the name alone enthuses me.

If I may be the Heretic here for a second… I’ve never played any of the Baldur’s Gate games.

My hype for this is based purely on people saying good things about the series as a whole.

No you may not. This site only has room for ONE Heretic!

And hey, just cause you missed a game, that’s okay. Damn, missed out on VARIOUS games, still do.
Too many out there to play them all!

But yeah, they were awesome to play. Especially as a young and budding D&D fan.

I got into the Neverwinter games around the same time if I recall.

Honestly there are too many games, I’ve had to hide my backlog on Steam and just get back into EVE Online to keep from having FOMO about what my friends get to play. 😛

For me, it’s not just about the games I wanna play, it’s also about having the time to play those that I have.
My plate is so damn full. I mean, damn, I still gotta find writing time, too!

Not sure if you jam on console but they recently released BG1, BG2, IceWind Dale, Planetscape Torment and Neverwinter nights. When you have time I would recommend giving them a try.

Have you played Divinity: Original Sin 2 yet? If Larian, who are one of the few devs I trust implicitly, brings that quality to BG it’s going to be amazing.
