Lollipop Chainsaw finally sells over a million units

That, and it gives me the excuse to use a cheerleader header image. Which is in my contract.

It’s only taken Lollipop Chainsaw 21 months, but hell, a million sold is a million sold. Developer Grasshopper Manufacture posted the results on Twitter (Via Destructoid), marking the occasion:

A million is plenty, and while it may sound like small change compared to the million (AND MILLIONS) of units sold by the likes of Tomb Raider, GTA V and Call of Duty, it’s still a damn good result for the smaller developer. Grasshopper games, while bizarre and aging well with time (Just like your mom, always with your mom what is wrong with her?), aren’t exactly chart-toppers.

Recent (and panned) release Killer Is Dead has only managed to shift 220 000 units around the world since 2013, while my cult favourite innuendo simulator Shadows of the Damned has moved over 760 000 sales since 2011.

Bear in mind that the short gameplay nature of Lollipop Chainsaw probably saw multiple trade-ins, and I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that the game has been played by over two million people so far. So what’s next for Grasshopper and the rest of the Giochi/Suda-51 led team?

A PlayStation 4 exclusive by the name of Lily Bergamo, which will most likely be as odd as any other game that has arrived from that development studio. Grasshopper may have hit or miss games, but dammit, I love the fact that they’re taking a chance with each and every title released so far.

More of that please.

I picked up Shadows of the Damned on the weekend at BT Games – worth a pop at R99…havent played it yet mind. Also got Syndicate, Asura’s Wrath and Binary Domain – apparently all “cult hits.”

Oh and congrats to Grasshopper – sorry I am not one of the million…yet!
