I absolutely despise micro transactions and when they started appearing in some of the types of games that I really enjoy I started to get depressed but this latest news really has got me down.
I’m not a huge Halo fan but I am well aware of the size of the following the series has and the announcement by 343 Industries Executive Producer, Dab Ayoub, has my blood running cold
“We don’t have too much to talk about in terms of our plans down that line, but it’s (micro transactions for cosmetic items) certainly something… we’ve seen the fans of Gears are enjoying, and if it’s something we think our community is going to enjoy, it’s something we’ll seriously talk about.”
While on one hand I don’t mind seeing a fool parted with his money I do believe this is a slippery slope that we are all going to regret in years to come.
The next step is that you will be able to buy a cammo outfit in Halo that makes it harder for you to be seen, granted it’s cosmetic only but it gives you an advantage over others. Next all people will be given glowing guns as default but you can always buy a normal black gun skin if you’d like.
I don’t like it and I don’t want it to happen but I know it’s going to.
