Mortal Kombat 11 patch now live, has big in-game rewards buff

4 min read

We’re really enjoying Mortal Kombat 11 around these parts. I think it’s safe to say that it’s stolen our hearts. However, when it comes to earning Hearts (and other in-game currency) from NetherRealm’s latest franchise entry then things have taken a turn for worst.

In short, the game was forcing players who want access to new fatalities and skins to grind out tiny rewards over hundreds of matches so that they can build up enough in-game loot to open chests in the game’s Krypt is terrible. Luckily, as we learned last week, NetherRealm is doing something about this as they announced a new patch to change the kurrency currency system, as well giving players a big reward to make up for their initial missteps.

That patch has now gone live for PS4 players and includes the reward of 500,000 Koins, 1,000 Souls, 1,000 Time Crystals, 500 Hearts. That’s actually not a gigantic reward, as 500 Hearts will only get you around two high-tier chests. With the 500, 000 Koins you could open somewhere in the region of 50 standard chests though, so that does cut out a lot of the lower-tier grinding though.

What is important though is that the number of in-game currency rewards you get for performing certain actions is getting bumped up nicely now. In some cases, it’s more than triple what you would previously receive. NetherRealm hasn’t officially confirmed these numbers, but based on player feedback on the Reddit post where the patch details were revealed last night, things appear to break down as follows when it comes to earning Hearts:

Fatality = 3
Brutality = 5
Mercy = 3
Fatality + Mercy = 6
Brutality + Mercy = 8

Players are also reporting that whereas previously they were earning around 400-500 Koins per match, they are now getting around 1000-2000 pr match, with Dragon Challenges now also adding 1000 Koins for each one you successfully perform while playing. That is definitely a good step in the right direction.

At this moment, these changes are just available for PS4 players, but NetherRealm has promised that these will roll out to the Xbox, PC, and Switch platforms soon. You can check out the komplete complete patch notes below.
