Games for June

You already know that Microsoft will be rolling out a new iteration of their console soon, one that drops the Kinect hardware like a rapper dropping the mic after some dope beats. But that’s just the start of a new strategy for Microsoft, as their Games for Gold program gets a slight tweak, and some titles that people will actually want to play.

Starting in June, the Xbox Games for Gold program will be taking another page out of the PlayStation Plus book. On the Xbox One, games will be de-activated should you choose to cancel your Gold account. As has been the case, Xbox 360 owners get to keep the games offered for as long as they have a working console.  And they’re going to get some great new additions in June.

The latest such games which will be available for free if you hold a Gold account are Dark Souls, Charlie Murder and Super Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition. That’s one of the finest and challenging RPGs in recent history, a solid indie game and the tweaked version of the eternal bliksemer, just in time for the Ultra update.

Xbox One owners, you can also get in on the action. You’ll be able to play Max: The Curse of the Brotherhood and Halo: Spartan Assault for free next month. But wait, there’s more!

Microsoft also plans to toss a deep discount towards Xbox One users, for Ryse: Son of Rome and Forza Motorsport 5. Hopefully, there’ll be a few more big deals on the horizon when the console launches locally in September.

It’s not your typical hack n slash RPG, so don’t go in expecting that

Yes, it’s easily one of the most intense games ever made. Dark Souls II took it to another level.

Brilliant move by MS! I recently read an article saying Sony will have to focus on games to become profitable again. When was the last time a PSN+ subscriber or a Vita owner for that matter bought a game? This effectively blocks Sony from NOT offering good games for free in future! They made their bed, now they’ll have to sleep in it! Very good news for gamers, but financially troubling for Sony!????????????

No clue. The plan at the moment is platinum FF X. We’re already in close to the end. Then Platinum Ni no kun, the maybe try for a platinum of X2. But I’m dreading trying to 100% the story line again. Last time we got 99.9% and got the sad ending. We were not amused.

Yup, and its stupid stuff that often costs you, like not visiting an area in the chapter it becomes available even though you have no reason to go there.

I bought a game this month and last month and the month before. Every month now that I think of it. People aren’t poor because they pick the PS4 over the XBOX One. At least now people can stop using “online experience” as an excuse for XBOX Live.

What do you mean? People can use the $100 they have saved on not buying the Xbone With Kinect to buy games 🙂

Yeah, really brilliant, they just copied Sony. The problem with that theory is that they’re just being reactive, allowing Sony to be proactive. And I missed the part of the art of war where Sun Tzu said you need to wait 6 months, allowing yourself to get your ass kicked, before actually fighting a war.

I have bought 5 PS4 games, I’m not big on indie games. So I buy the big AAA titles, and if they are good I don’t wait for ages I just get them. I still hope that Knack is our first big free PS+ title, that is the only reason I haven’t bought the game. So your logic seems to work on that one title when it comes to me. But as it was with the old gen as long as I have Fifa, I should be OK no matter the games line up!!

About time. But then again most people have already moved to the PS as their online offerings kick the crap out of what MS have offered. I suppose it will get people who have let their gold subscriptions laps to log again.

Great 360 lineup. I hadn’t realised the One was going PS+ route i.e. game deactivated once you lose gold. Even Microsoft have been going on about “you keep the game forever”, so now it is just PS+.

Is it me or is there now nothing that truly differentiates the two consoles? Pretty much same price, same strategies, etc. On one hand great; on another pretty disappointing.

The argument will now simply come down to games…probably not a bad thing!

Xbox One is looking for longevity in MP games like Forza 5, Ryse, Titanfall and DR3. It’s a solid strategy as MS has a strong network to rely on which makes buying a Gold sub even sweeter.

I agree on certain ones e.g. Forza, Titanfall. I have this feeling Microsoft are going to have a great E3 – could well be some surprises! I just hope they don’t misstep and start with all their TV stuff they have lined up – spend 5 minutes (maybe 7) on it perhaps.

But show us stuff we don’t know or expect.

As for gold, I have no major issue with my sub – I get decent discounts, 2 free games a month, etc. So no complaints from me.

However, PS+ does have the advantage of more recent games – I love my selection of PS4 games I am getting (Resogun has been the highlight though). Interesting times ahead though.
