Why choose between an Xbox One and PlayStation 4, when you could choose a PC instead? That’s the sentiment of the pc-centric graphics chipmaker that’s not not powering any of the new consoles, because of course it is. Yes, Nvidia says that Pc’s are “far superior” to consoles.
That’s according to Nvidia’s consumer sales manager Matt Wright, who says that Pc gaming is the best – but it might take a little arm-twisting to convince console gamers.
“We are proposing small form-factor PCs to be a viable alternative to the next-gen consoles. Enthusiast players want the ultimate games system and that is the PC. The PC platform is far superior to any console when it comes to gaming, plus you get all the extra functionality that a computer brings.”
They want to try and remove the technical hurdles intrinsic to PC gaming, and make it a simpler, easier experience – something that Steam goes a long way in doing.
“We want to make PC gaming as simple as possible and we think that it already becoming much more relevant and appealing to casual gamers,”
“Steam now has more users than Xbox Live,” Wright concluded. “There is a whole new generation who grew up playing on PC with titles like Minecraft or World of Tanks. There’s a huge community who love playing their games on PC.”
Of course, PC is the superior platform – depending on gamers’ needs, knowledge and propensity for tinkering. Some people just prefer console gaming, and don’t give a damn about resolutions, framerates or mods. And that’s ok. Still, whenever I hear about Nvidia trumpeting the benefits of Pc gaming, I can help but think it’s all a bit of sour grapes.
