We posted a story back in September where a Capcom employee seemed to let the cat out of the bag about PS3 trophy support becoming mandatory.
Well that day has now arrived… okay the day hasn’t actually arrived but it has been set in stone by Sony now.
In response to a question from videogamer.com Sony had this to say
“Yes from Jan 09 all games must have trophies.â€
Simple and elegant. Finally trophy support will be mandatory.
This is good news for all PS3 gamers and to be honest is something that should have been done the day Trophy support was finalised.

to be honest i’m not a big fan of trophies or achievements. 90% of them are trivial and have no real bearing on a game.
but i know some people swear by them, personal opinion i suppose

Does this mean all games that previuosly didn’t have trophy support will now have then added? Cause if you ask me, the system is already broken, or incomparable to Achievements, as achievments where there from the start, with trophies being added half way (which don’t get me wrong here, it’s a good thing they have been added) theres a ton of good games that dont have them, that people have and havn’t played

I highly doubt they will go back and add trophies to old games. Cool for the PS3 peeps that they will have from Jan though. I don’t really chase achievements on my 360 but it is fun sometimes.

They’ve added trophies to GTA4 as well as Uncharted.
I’m sure there are others as well.

How does that work though? Do you get the trophies for stuff you’ve already done or will you have to replay the game? Coz for a game like GTA… that’s a lot of work for a little gamerscore…

You have to replay. In my case it’s not such a grind.
I really enjoy Uncharted and GTA4.
