Rumour: Is Lionsgate thinking of rebooting TWILIGHT?

2 min read

Funny thing about money: Once you have some, you kind of want some more. Just ask the guys over at Lionsgate. With their acquisition of Summit Entertainment earlier in the year, they took over a $2 billion franchise, but it seems that 9 ZEROES! just aren’t enough.

The final installment in the series –  Breaking Dawn – Part 2 – is set to take a big, bloody bite out of the box office in November, but according to a report from Bloody-Disgusting, Lionsgate would like to keep on munching a whole lot longer. Even if it means resorting to the dreaded “R” word.

No, not “Renesmee.”

Bloody-Disgusting are claiming that the studios is looking to reboot the franchise, starting all over, so as to as lock in a whole new generation of borderline pedophile, bored 40 year old housewives.

“…they’re already discussing it internally. It will happen.

Twilight will return. It will never leave. It is eternal. Prepare to weep for another decade.

It is still undecided exactly what the future of the franchise will be, though. It could be a direct remake, considering the initial saga is so poorly made, but then again it could also be a spinoff or maybe even a one-off sequel. It could be anything to keep the green bills piling high. But expect a remake. Yes, quickly.”

“They’ll deny it, right here, right now. We’ll get plenty of eggs in our face. Sites will burn us at the stake like a witch during the Salem trials. Still, the fact will remain: it’s true.”

And as if on cue, Summit co-chairman Rob Firedman responded via Deadline with just that. (The denial, I mean, not the eggs. Though that would have been infinitely funnier.)

We are not remaking Twilight. We will happily support Stephanie Meyer if she decides to proceed in any way. But this will be the last one unless that should change,

But if you Twilight purists are breathing a sigh of relief right now, don’t get too complacent too soon, because that statement is not as cut and dry as it may initially seem, as Deadline clarifies:

“What this statement means is simply that the studio will do whatever “Twilight Saga” author Stephenie Meyer wants. She has said in some interviews that she wouldn’t mind seeing a reboot — so an eventual remake isn’t out of the realm of possibility.”

I’m inclined to think that the power of money is going to win out here, and that while it may not be a direct reboot, we will be seeing Twilight in some form or another on our screens again in a couple of years.

So Twilight fan(s), what do you say? Are you on Team Reboot?

I didn’t even bother with the spoof starring Jenna Haze…although maybe for her I should…no not even for her! Sparkly vampires just cannot be tolerated!
