Rumour: We may be getting more than one Green Lantern

2011’s Green Lantern is what I like to call a Marmite movie – either you liked it or you didn’t, and even if you liked it you still know it could have been a lot better. Either way DC/Warner Bros. are hoping that by the time 2020 comes around – which is when the next Green Lantern adventure is scheduled for release – the taste is out of your mouth. And this rumour may just help.

According to a rumour on Collider, the Green Lantern “reboot” may feature three, not just one, of the more popular human Green Lanterns as co-leads – namely the classic and cocky Hal Jordan (who was portrayed by Ryan Reynolds in the 2011 movie), the responsible John Stewart, and the unstable one – Guy Gardner. No mention of Kyle Rayner unfortunately.

They also speculate that should that franchise develop further, subsequent movies could focus on different Green Lanterns – which would be a really interesting concept and be more in-line with the fact that they are, after all, members of the intergalactic police force, the Green Lantern Corps. Should the latter prove true we also shouldn’t forget that Lanterns do come in more shades than just Grey Green – with Yellow, Red, Blue, (Star) Sapphire, Black and White all getting their moments to shine.

While there’s been much speculation and rumour mongering around the various superhero cameos we’ll see in the upcoming Batman v Superman: I Get Paid By The Word So I’ll Make The Longest Movie Title I Can Just You Watch Nothing Can Stop Me You’ll Never Take Me Alive, and a Green Lantern has been far down the list, Collider have also hinted that we may just see one or more Lanterns being revealed at the upcoming DC/Warner Bros. presentation at the San Diego Comic-Con in July. However we should expect (at least) one to show up when the Justice League movies roll around.

What would you like to see from the Green Lantern reboot? By 2020 the world might just be ready for a Cerise Lantern or, dare I say it, a Ginger Lantern.

  1. Thumbs up for Guy Gardner’s inclusion. Always preferred him, was just more interesting a character, he’s no boy scout.
