SecuROM DRM does not work

1 min read

You will remember that earlier this year the Internet was up in arms because their latest title, Spore, was going to be using the much criticised SecuROM DRM to prevent piracy.

People were upset because they could only install the game 3 times before having to phone EA customer support for new keys, now I honestly am not sure why you would want to install the game more than three times but if you own it you should be able to do whatever you want.

However it seems that this SecurCOM software has failed miserably if its main job was to protect Spore from being pirated. The latest pirate charts have been released by TorrentFreak and as we can see Spore has been horribly raped by the community.

  1. Spore     (1,700,000)
  2. The Sims 2     (1,150,000)
  3. Assassins Creed     (1,070,000)
  4. Crysis     (940,000)
  5. Command & Conquer 3     (860,000)
  6. Call of Duty 4     (830,000)
  7. GTA San Andreas     (740,000)
  8. Fallout 3     (645,000)
  9. Far Cry 2     (585,000)
  10. Pro Evolution Soccer 2009     (470,000)

However it does disturb me greatly that someone can track this so easily but not stop it from happening. It also sucks to see some really top quality titles in the top 10 that the developers really do deserve to get their money for.
