Yesterday it was mere rumour, but today it is fact; Sony has confirmed that PS4 racer DriveClub, once set to be a launch title, has now been delayed to 2014.
In a blog post on the PlayStation Blog, Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida confirmed the game’s delay.
“SCE Worldwide Studios and the team at Evolution Studios have made the difficult decision to delay the release of DRIVECLUB and DRIVECLUB PlayStation Plus Edition until early 2014. DRIVECLUB will be a truly innovative, socially connected racing game, but the team requires more time in order to deliver on their vision — and I’m fully confident the game will surpass your expectations.”
So no, no DriveClub at launch. And yes, it also means that the game’s pared-down version won’t be available for PlayStation Plus subscribers. So what’ll be filling that void?
That delightful game of shadows and light, Contrast. It looks pretty damned cool, but it’s not DriveClub. And I fear that this is something we’ll be seeing more of from PS+ on the Ps4. I don’t think we’ll be getting quite as many great AAA games as we currently get on the service, and we can expect a lot more smaller, downloadable titles.
With PS+ becoming mandatory for multiplayer, neither Sony or game developers can afford to give too much away for free.
