And this guy has nailed it. NAILED IT I SAY!
I think kids are missing out these days. Sure, consoles are great. Sure, they have internet connectivity and all manner of interactions available within that hardware. But nothing beats the classic arcade stand. There’s just something magical about standing around one of those units, palms sweaty and hammering away at the buttons below you as the hours tick away with some classic arcade action.
For many of us, that’s where we got our first proper taste of gaming. Whether it was a dodgy arcade unit for The Punisher game or afternoons spent honing Hadoukens in Street Fighter, that’s where the good times were. Many games these days however, will never be seen in a traditional arcade environment. An endangered species, arcade games need to pull out all the stops these days in order to attract fans and their tokens.
But that doesn’t mean that you can’t create your own beast. And that’s exactly what YourMKArcadeSource has done, recreating several arcade cabinets for not only the classic Mortal Kombat games, but the recent 2011 version and April’s Mortal Kombat X as well. Check out his build progress on the custom Mortal Kombat X stand:
And then behold the masterpiece in action, as it runs some footage that was recently shown in a Kombat Kast:
There’s more on his Facebook page, but I love what I’m seeing. A proper 27” LED monitor, wood panelling and custom decals. I think I’m in love with an inanimate object that isn’t inflatable for once. Right, that settles it. I think I’m going to build an arcade stand of my own, instead of that PC I mentioned a few weeks ago. Mine will of course, be customised in Puzzle De Pon decals.
