These are your Summer of Arcade games

1 min read

You can count on Microsoft to deliver some incredible downloadable games at least once a year; with its annual Summer of Arcade. Previous games released during the promotion have included Castle Crashers, Braid, ‘’Splosion Man, Trials HD, Shadow Complex, Limbo, Bastion – and well, you get the picture. these are pretty much the very best games available for the Xbox Live Arcade platform. Here are this years games – with release dates and prices.

In just about a month, you’ll be able to download:

  • Brothers: A Tale of two Sons launches August 7th for 1,200 Points
  • Charlie Murder launches August 14th for 800 Points
  • Flashback launches August 21st for 800 Points
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows launches August 28th for 1,200 Points

Hmm. That seems a little underwhelming, doesn’t it? Two games stand out, but it’s still the weakest Summer of arcade line-up yet.

Brothers: A Tale of two Sons has been compared by everyone who’s played it to be a magical blend of Fable and PSN exclusive The Journey, and is said to be one of this year’s indie darlings. Charlie Murder is the new game from the guys who brought you “The Dishwasher” and is inspired by those old arcade beat-em ups. Flashback has me less excited, because I don;t care much for remakes of games I’ve played to death, and the new Ninja turtles hasn’t piqued my interest at all.

Usually, buying all of the Summer of Arcade games would net you a free title, but this year all you’ll get is a Soul Pack for free to play RPG,  Ascend: Hand of Kul if you buy any two of them. What do you think? You keen on any of these?

Editor. I'm old, grumpy and more than just a little cynical. One day, I found myself in possession of a NES, and a copy of Super Mario Bros 3. It was that game that made me realise that games were more than just toys to idly while away time - they were capable of being masterpieces. I'm here now, looking for more of those masterpieces.

Actually, Flashback has been on my list of shame since the 16-bit generation, so looking forward to playing it.

    • Skyblue

      “List of shame” – Lol.
I’ll def be picking it up as well and I played it stukkend on my Megadrive.

  • Hammersteyn

Watching the video gave me the same feeling when you go to Mr.Video and there really isn’t anything you want to see but you pick something anyways.

I wonder if TMNT is going to be any good. It looks like fun but I will wait for the reviews to start coming in.

    • ElNicko

with you on TMNT and waiting for the verdict on it.
looks quite fun , with a bit of Batman combat , but we shall see

      • RinceWind

Not sure, the combat looks really sticky hey?

  • Umar Kiiroi Senk?

    Ascend: Hand of Kul….lol #ps+

  • RinceWind

Why can’t they make an awesome Turtles game dammit? I know this isn’t out yet, but I have this horrible feeling in my chest, oh yeah, it’s called A:CM…

    • Hammersteyn

Holding thumbs, both of em, please be a good game!!!

      • RinceWind

I so want one man. Loved the Nintendo game from years ago! Though we shan’t mention certain water levels #fml

        • Hammersteyn

On our version we used to press select on the controller to do a stage select at the start screen. We would start the game on the level after that.

          • RinceWind

Oh man, I may have saved about 10 years being wiped off my life from rage, pain and anger if I had known that. Mind you, we used to get Nintendo Power and I am sure it would have said something about that if our version had it… Right? RIGHT?! 0-O

          • Hammersteyn

Right, except I knew there were at least two different companies that published the game.

      • Hammersteyn

        LIES! They don’t have eyes.

      • RinceWind

        Hahaha! *Bites lip and cries.

  • Drizzt

Coo but how many can us XBLA SA users expect to get? 1? less than 1. Maybe more than 0. Or are they going to blame the FPB as usual?

Time to call Sony and ask them how they get it right…
