Man, I’m excited for Thief 4. I loved the first two games, and really didn’t think Deadly Shadows was terrible either. I really look forward to , donning Garett’s cloak and skulking about in the darkness. Odd, because I usually dislike having to be particularly stealthy in games, usually taking the “run in and kill everything that moves” approach – because the dark scares me and a big gun always helps.
No stranger to high profile reboots of beloved classics, Eidos Montreal – the studio that brought you last year’s incredible Deus Ex: Human Revolution – has said the game will feature more than just stealth. I certainly hope not to its detriment.
Much like they did with Deus Ex, the Eidos Montreal team will be blending new ideas with old ones – and will hopefully put out a game as good, or possibly even better than human Revolution.
"We have more international staff working on Thief, which brings a great flavour to the game," Eidos Montreal general manager Stephane D’Astous told OXM. "There are a lot of challenges to bringing back a great cult IP, but we consider it like a new IP and we are going to respect the spirit of the franchise like we did with Deus Ex.
"Deus Ex was the kick-start of this new series of great games, and Thief will be part of that, and Thief will be part of that. We don’t want to deliver the same each time. Our mandate is to bring new stuff to the table; games that we’ll be talking about for years."
So they’ll be adding new stuff to thief 4. Let’s hope they take away a few things too – mostly the working title of the game, currently stylised as Thi4f. Putting numbers in words is not cool.
