As Gamers we’ve all seen videogame-to-film adaptations that have broken our spirits, and soured our memories of beloved games. Zoopy’s Movie review crew took a look at what they consider to be the best celluloid re-imaginings of our favourite games.

Being film buffs as opposed to dyed-in-the-wool gamers, they’ve of course gotten it horribly, horribly wrong. I mean…Max Payne makes their list, but at least they didn’t place the notoriously godawful Street Fighter : Legend of Chun Li.

Hit the jump, check out the video – and then tell us what you consider to be the best adaptation of a video game.

    I don’t really understand how this is a “top 5” list. It comes across as just a list of five adaptations. How did he come up with the list? He lists Max Payne but doesn’t think much of it. So why did it make the top 5?

    I love the Max Payne games but loath the movie. It has great style (as he mentioned), but that’s all. Wahlberg’s character wasn’t dark and tormented enough. And just as badly cast was Mila Kunis as Mona Sax. Just terrible.

    Prince of Persia was well done and fun (but not brilliant as far as movies go), though the lack of blood was noticeable (but understandable since they wanted a low age rating). I haven’t played the games, so I don’t know how true to the them it is.

    Only other two movies I can think of mentioning are Doom and Tomb Raider. Neither brilliant, but they’re watchable.

    Dude, Doom and Tomb Raider were such fails! Agreed, Maz PAyne was boring as all hell but still. I was hoping to see Hitman on this list.

    @MarQ.

    It is in fact a “Top 5” list. Based on my opinion of the films I have in fact seen. That’s how I came up with the list.

    I too loved the Max Payne games, and agree that it seems like I didn’t think much of the film in this insert, but the film does succeed enough in certain key areas for it to win a place in my top 5.

    The first Tomb Raider was fair, but not worthy of mention. Same goes for Doom, that film was pathetic.

    @Grant

    Hitman the movie will never match up to the game, and the man responsible for that abomination should be ashamed.

    What are your top 5 ?

    I’m one of those weird people who loves the terrible game to movie adaptations…

    Think Street Fighter and Dead or Alive :wassat:

    @JayFilmz: fair enough – that wasn’t clear to me. 🙂

    @Grant: I didn’t find Hitman too bad either. But then I didn’t get into the games, so I can’t compare them to it.

    Maybe one day an adaptation will meet everyone’s standards! Maybe…
