Gaming is going through a rather interesting trend at the moment. Gone are the days of classic games getting the HD treatment. Instead, we have modern and barely new HD games getting some extra oomph in remastered editions. What if this trend was reversed, and developers purposefully took some of their franchises back to “the good ol’ days”?
Gamers over at Neogaf have taken this concept into their own hands. There’s quite a handful of screenshots and redone box art, but I’ve just picked a few of my favourites. Can you guess what they are? They are simple for the most part, but I have left all the answers below just in case.
- The Last of Us
- Heavy Rain
- Final Fantasy XIII Versus (done up to be like Final Fantasy VII)
- Super Smash Bros (duh!)
- Mirrors Edge
- Doom 3
- The Last Guardian
So, how did you do? 10/10? That’s what I like to hear! What modern day games would you like to see go old school? Be sure to check out The Thread for many other submissions and recreations!

For us older generation of gamers this would be brilliant. But we dont live in such a world. We live in a world where gamers of today like to bitch and moan about how every game developing company owes them everything.
