There’s a new PlayStation 3 exclusive to be announced at the Spike Video Game Awards this weekend. Word is that the big announcement will be “The Last of Us,” a game that’s been briefly teased. It’s been teased by a video showing riots, human tragedy quarantine signs, and a pervasive sense of really bad stuff happening.
What’s it all about?
Here’s the trailer that invaded the internet this weekend.
It invites you, at its end, to visit the game’s official site, latsofus.com, which shows a solitary bullet ant behaving pretty bizarrely. A rather clever somebody noticed that the ant in the video exhibit signs of having succumb to the cordyceps fungus – a brain eating, propagating fungus that ends up controlling and killing its host BY GROWING OUT OF ITS HEAD. Could that be the basis for Last of Us? Seeing all those quarantine signs, it’s likely – I just hope it’s not another zombie game; I think the world’s had enough of those.
Here’s a BBC clip showing how the fungus works, for those of you who’re interested.
