Many PC gamers want to play some of the incredible exclusive you’ll find on consoles – but there’s one thing holding them back. They’re so tied to an archaic control system – the venerable keyboard and mouse – and just unable and unwilling to adapt to new things. In the future, the Xbox One could support those input devices intended for office work.
Speaking in an interview with online retailer Newegg (via Videogamer), Xbox Live’s Major Nelson said Microsoft would add support for keyboards and mice if that’s what developers wanted.
“We’ll certainly have this great SDK for developers to do what they like,” he said. “If that’s something they’re interested in doing, we’ll certainly help them do that. Certainly it’s possible, but we don’t have anything to announce at this time.”
So it’s probably not happening, though it could. Mostly, the Major believes that console and Pc gaming are disparate things.
“We kind of have this concept of when you’re playing a PC game you’re leaning forward,” Hryb said. “With an Xbox game, sometimes you lean back. You’re just kinda having fun. And I don’t want to incite the religious debate that will ensue, because I’m very aware. We want to provide a gaming experience that people enjoy, certainly with Windows–that’s our other large gaming platform at Microsoft.
“So there’s something there, but right now we’re really focused on really the console space.”
Of course, support for something doesn’t mean it’ll be used. The PS3 had support for Keyboard and Mouse in games, and it was used in just one game that I can remember. It creates too much disparity between players, because yes, the mouse is a far more accurate input device when it comes to shooting things in the head.
So, PC gamers. Would you consider an Xbox One if it let you use your weapons of choice?

PS3 has Keyboard and Mouse support and only unreal tournament 3? used it i think. Just because something has a feature doesn’t mean developers will or should use it.

Head tracking could work though, I mean you know in Guitar hero you get star points for flicking the guitar. For NEXT GEN guitar hero you have to do head bumping for them hard rock songs. The faster your head moves the more points you get…though…..you might seriously hurt yourself

Spoke to the guy who did the XBOX ONE demo at Rage the week before Rage about this and he did say that as far as he knows currently they are not looking at this as due to the split in all online gaming servers due to the fact that controllers will always be slower than KB/mouse.
But I just say that the amount of guys who would start playing xbox just due to this would make this worth while. Controller servers, KB/Mouse servers and what we all would love a open one.

I’m sorry to resurrect an old thread. But I’m looking at going console gaming, but I’m still disappointed at lack of control options.
Archaic’s? WTF? Gamepads and mice alike have been widely used by consumers since the 80’s.
This talk of keyboard+mouse=leaning forward being less fun than
controller, on a couch leaning back.

I say he’s doing it wrong.
It depends on mood and preference. I find the lack of choice disturbing.
Even on the pc. I use gamepad for platformers and fighters.
Keyboard and mouse for FPS, RTS, RPG.
