Also, you can put your weed in there

After several years of playing console games, the sensation of using a kouse and keyboard again has become pretty damn alien to me. Fortunately, most controllers these days work on a Windows platform. And it looks like the Playstation 4 Dual Shock controller will also boast some connectivity. But there’s a catch.

According to a tweet via Joystiq from Sony Computer Entertainment el presidente Shuhei Yoshida, you’ll be able to use the Dual Shock 4 “for basic functions” on your PC.

What does that mean? According to to Yoshida, don’t expect to be using that controller touch pad to fondle your way through your current library of games. Still, knowing the PC crowd, it won’t take too long for someone to cook some drivers up to take advantage of the Dual Shock 4. It’s a bloody nice controller, and I’m certain that plenty of you chaps got to try it out over the weekend at rAge.

Now if only I could get used to using a damn mouse and keyboard again…

Master Race, on the subject of joysticks: could someone please explain this to me? is there anyone out there that would fork out this for a keyboard? WTF is so special about it?

I myself don’t understand this – as a PC owner. R500 or R600 is my limit, R1k is too much. It’s just a keyboard, really.

I have a Razer KB, but R3k for one is a bit silly

Mine cost R1k back when I bought it, and also has a little touch area, profiles, macros, backlit etc.

Yes, you get plenty of fools. You’re pretty much guaranteed that any PC peripheral with “gaming” in the name has been horribly overpriced.

Some might not agree, but it goes the same for 2k headphones. I have a set of Senheisers that cost less than half and sounds more crisp than some of my mates’ “gaming” headphones.

Sennheiser however make amazing audio products. I’ve always gone with them for music headphones, the quality is unmatched imo. The only reason I use gaming headphones is the attached mic, and the Sirius headset really isn’t bad at all. Just don’t use them for music.

I bought a set of headphones for 200 bucks because I needed a mic. I’m still to hear the difference between them and my Sennheisers. Mechanically, they seem very similar.

Sound is subjective. Often cheaper headphones will sound nicer to you but maybe not to someone else. I have 2 pairs of Sennheiser’s and I like the sound of the cheaper one more.

I totally get you, I feel the same. I myself enjoy a certain feeling that one of my pairs give me that the other just doesn’t.
I have a degree in sound engineering though and I’ve seen a lot of people buying after a brand when it really doesn’t make much of a difference in quality.

I think of it in terms of diminishing returns, sure you can spend R2k on a pair of headphones, but is it really twice as good as a pair that cost R1k. Answer is usually no, and there’s been more than enough research done on how people fool themselves into believing the most expensive product is the best when compared to something cheaper.

I find it really funny though when guys are like “well, my headphones have a response up to 24,000hz”
That’s great and all, but no human can hear up to 24,000hz,

A MS two button wheel mouse optical? Bought a grey one 15 years ago and black one 13 years ago both still going strong being used for gaming and work. The number of button clicks on these probably runs into the 100’s of millions.

The switchblade user interface is a touchscreen for social networking bullshit, it has a touchscreen embedded in the keyboard that displays youtube, facebook, twitter and a web browser. So, that’s likely the lions share of the cost. However, that would be a reason for me NOT to buy it.

The social interconnectivity of the PS4/One made me go meh, this does also.

This is great news. I’ve always loved my Xbox controller, just way more comfy for my large man-hands, but the new PS controller looks a lot bulkier. Now I just need to test out the PS4, XBone and Steam controller and see who’ll be my lucky next controller of choice for my PC.

Stick with the Xbox controller, while the PS4 is a vast improvement, it’s still not as great in terms of comfort as the Xbox controller. It still doesn’t feel quite right in your hands – the way the Xbox does. I would be interested to try the Steam controller though, those touch pad things look like an interesting way to play.

Good to hear. I have never really enjoyed the feel of the PS controller, it’s just too small and not very ergonomic. Let’s see what Steam can cook up. Price will also probably play a huge role between the Steam and XBone controllers.

That X1 controller was the best controller I’ve tried since I picked up an X360 controller 8 years ago. Absolutely sublime with Forza 5. Found the PS4 controller much improved but it still felt very cheap and the triggers, also improved, are still nowhere near big enough. It’s also fugly.
