The Xbox One is breaking pre-order records

topsyturvy

Everyone on the internet seems to hate the very idea of the Xbox One; an (almost) always online console that restricts the way you play your games. I recently said that these angry people are no longer the target market, no longer the core audience – and that in the grand scheme of things they no longer really matter. that’s starting to seem quite true – as the Xbox One has started shattering pre-order records.

Or at least, the pre-order records for Blockbuster; the US, UK and Australian games and media retailer and lender, who claim that the Xbox One has broken the chain’s hardware pre-order records.

“We are delighted by the huge number of pre orders that we have received so far for the new Microsoft console,” the retailer’s head of games James Morton said to MCV, before launching in t some fluffy PR advertising.

“At Blockbuster, we have a fantastic array of adrenaline-fuelled console games for sale or rental. Our expert staff know gaming and they know consoles and these pre-orders are testament to our customers’ trust in us as a leading gaming retailer.

“With Sony releasing the PS4 in the near future, the next few months are going to be an exciting time for our staff and customers at Blockbuster and we can’t wait to hear more details from both Sony and Microsoft at the E3 Expo next month.”

Blockbuster mostly deals with videogame rentals – and the Xbox One seems to put an end to that sort of thing. Do they know something we don’t?

haha! But with the new Xbox One, you can watch that AND google, tweet, facebook, order pizza, play fantasy football, AND the best thing is you can then call all your friends on SKYPE, and tell them how serious your attention deficit disorder has just gotten!

Pre-orders are up already. Even BT games has pre-orders. but this is a usual thing in the industry. But it is, like you say for attention. but what matters is actual sales

It’s not unusual… Of course they will buy it. M$ targets those places where they can actually use the machine for everything they intend them to, and that’s obviously not only gaming. If I was in the States, probably M$’s offer would appeal more to me than Sony’s.

The amount of people that use Netflix and other apps in those countries is massive, so this shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone. M$ is focusing in other stuff right now, other than the games, while Sony can only focus on games and social because that’s what the Japanese demand.

It’s not that hard to understand. Of course it will disturb a gamer, while a hardcore gamer will laugh at all this nonsense while playing on his/her PC 🙂

The XBO is designed with the sale of used games in mind. Gamestop has come out speaking to MCV explaining just how used games sales will work on the XBO. The always on-line internet thing is still to be finalized but people saw a physical console at the XBO reveal and they want it.

Before everyone lights their torches, remember it’s pre-orders. So nothing is set in stone yet. Just ask EA or SquareEnix.

But the X-Bone will sell, and it’ll sell well. Die Hard XB fans will probably buy it, because they have invested so much into the brand. Most gamers will eventually have to buy one of the next gen consoles because publisher.

Their investments have no returns as their entire collection is for naught on their new system. Semi-understandable considering it uses different architecture but then again many older MAC OS apps have been made compatible by releasing an x86 patch… of course most distributors will just milk the gullible consumers by re-releasing it as the superHD edition at full price :-p

is it even fact that Microsoft’s Xbox one wont allow the use of pre-owned games or is this just another garbage rumoured story that everyone is taking as gospel? because that seems to happen a lot on lazygamer. and i never heard them mention that at all during the unveiling. (sorry guys but its true). P.S. i hate xbox. (see what i did there?)

It’s a rumor, based on a rumor, based on a rumor. Also, MS did clear the fact up that the XBO will play used games but the policy on how remains to be finalized. Gamers expected the whole of E3 to be unveiled in an hours hardware reveal.

Well, MS themselves don’t know. But MS themselves have stated that you will have to pay MS and the publisher a fee to play used games. So no, not a rumour. If the information is not correct, blame MS. The finer details are yet to be finalised.

You wont have to look for your credit card, the xbox one will have it scanned while you are still paying in store and charge you a fee when you say “xbox on”.

That thing is going to sell like Corndogs at a Yankees match.

I have two comments regarding this:
    1. Off-course the US is going to want to buy it. It’s marketed with two of the things they love most. NFL and TV. If They signed a deal with Nascar, it would’ve sold better than any iPhone EVER!

Every redneck in the South with have one of these plugged into his trailer if they sign a deal with Nascar.

    2. Ignorance is bliss.

I’ll take that with a heap of salt. I remember back when the xbox 360 and PS3 were about to be released, there was also the obligatory “breaking pre order records”, which essentially just amounted to PR talk. It’s to get YOU excited, because if something is supposedly getting massive pre-orders it’s not the puddle of piss you know it is.

Doesn’t anybody find it interesting that the Watch Dogs will be a xbox one title and that is a game that deals with how to exploit a always online, big brother world and that is exactly what the xbox one is trying to be. They should look at that game as a lesson.
