New Five Nights at Freddy’s is an RPG, not horror

Freddy

Although I’ve never played Five Nights at Freddy’s (for the same reasons that got Matty into playing it on camera for all of you to enjoy), I have an enormous amount of respect for the internet lore and fascination it managed to create over four games. Five Nights at Freddy’s 4 has supposedly turned the last page of the book though, with creator Scott Cawthon stating that it would be the last in the series. That doesn’t, however, mean that Freddy and his pals are gone for good.

Otherwise, we wouldn’t have something like Five Nights at Freddy’s World – a new RPG spin-off that brings the whole gang back together as tools for players to use when planning their very own party. Getting rid of the horror tropes for a more RPG focused approach, FNaF World is a spin-off in every sense of the word, retaining nothing from the original series other than the name and select characters.

In the announcement via Steam, Cawthon stressed this – detailing a game where players could choose from new, pristine versions of the animatronics to the horrific tainted ones while building your own custom (nightmare fuel) parties. It’s not scary, really!

It will not be a horror game, but a role playing game where you create a party using the huge selection of characters from the FNaF games, including the classic, withered, toy, phantom, and nightmare versions. I’ve been working steadily on characters and hope to start on enemy models next week.

A demo of the game was meant to be ready as early as next month, but Cawthon disappointingly revealed that it would have to be pushed back. He did, however, use the space to once again reiterate that Five Nights at Freddy’s 5 wasn’t happening, and that the story as a whole was complete.

It’s very important for me to say again that there will NOT be a Five Nights at Freddy’s 5. The story is complete, and the Halloween update and new game will not add to it.

Five Nights at Freddy’s World sounds confusing right now, mainly because I’m picturing something like a Restaurant Tycoon with seizure inducing animatronics running around and biting patrons. Considering Cawthon’s last attempt at an RPG was about a sentient coffee pot, I’m expecting (and kind of hoping for) something just as bizarre.
