Zombies are awesome. I experienced that last night, with some co-op action in Dead Island. Of course there are plenty of other games with which to experience, with DayZ currently dominating that specific genre. It’s a zombie apocalypse simulation to the Nth degree, from food and water, through to ammo and weapon maintenance. Trouble is, most of you won’t be able to play it.

In order to play this game, you’re going to need an equally realistic wartime FPS, ArmA 2, and it’s expansion pack, Operation Arrowhead. So where does one find ArmA 2, a 2010 game that isn’t being distributed in the market right now?

Well, we had a look at various websites, and came up with the following results:

  • Kalahari.net – Nope
  • Takealot.co.za – Nothing here
  • Loot.co.za – Keep lookin’
  • Bidorbuy.co.za – ArmAgeddon has hit us
  • Have2have.co.za – I CUT YOU!

That game is rarer than a quark right now. Your best bet? Hitting second hand shops, as it might be there, otherwise, your only real alternative, is to head to Steam, and download the game, which will cost you $15.99 on special, or R128 roughly. Same for the expansion pack, which surprisingly can be found at various online retailers, from around R150 to R250.

Those downloads however, are quite a few gigs each of data, a factor that hobbles many a local gamer who happens to have limited bandwidth. It’s unfortunately the only real way to play the game, until it’s makers eventually make it a free to play title, or until one enterprising soul eventually forms a black market dealing in the game.

“Psst, hey kid, wanna buy some ArmA 2?”
