A new creative team! New villains! New directions! New #1 issues! IT’S…Tuesday at Marvel Comics. The iconic comic book brand may be known as the house of ideas, but that idea has largely been singular in the last couple of years as the publisher has relaunched comic book after comic book with several new fresh starts that have left fans fatigued and retailers angry. It’s happening yet again this year, a mere handful of months after Marvel Legacy promised to get back down to basics with the established roster of characters who had been side-lined in favour of a more diverse cast of successors.

DC would pull its reboot trick again with last year’s Rebirth, as flicking that switch on and off again is something that the Distinguished Competition has mastered over the years. It’s also a trick that Marvel needs to desperately become experts at, as the last couple of years haven’t been kind. Marvel Legacy is meant to be that switch, as heroes new and old return to the fold.

There’s been one other thread amongst the chaos of Secret Empire that was finally unravelled this week. Revealed back in Civil War II, was a prophecy that Spider-Man would be responsible for the death of Captain America, as a vision showed Miles Morales standing with bloody fists above a beaten and apparently dead Steve Rogers. This week, someone did die.
