As the servers went down, the Darkness began consuming several locations (which are now being added to the Destiny Vault) in our solar system. Mercury, Io, Titan, and Mars all went dark, taking with it numerous Raids, Strikes, and beloved characters. “This will not be the end, it will be an escalation,” Eris Morn said right as the screen faded to black and maintenance began on the game for its new expansion. The Darkness is here, and the Light is barely keeping it at bay.
September is usually when Destiny 2 overhauls itself for the year ahead, introducing new content through a massive expansion that also charts the way forward for the next four seasons of activity. In the Destiny 2 cycle, we’ve had the Forsaken and Shadowkeep expansions. In 2020 though? We could finally be facing the age-old enemy of the Guardians, the Darkness itself, in the rumoured Dark Omens expansion.
Without Activision pulling their strings, Destiny 2 is in a good place right now. The recent Joker’s Wild content has been an injection of freshness into Bungie’s cosmic sandbox, overhauling Gambit and adding some interesting wrinkles to the lore of Destiny and its suddenly dicey morality. That’s not just a fascinating setup for the future of the series, but also a damn good foundation for where Destiny can go next after the Penumbra DLC launches.
One of the more underrated features of that black box, backwards compatible games are still a treat to dive into, with the library of available titles growing every month. That collection just got three new entries: One is a shooter that happens to be glorious, the other is a game that feels simply laborious and the final entry on the list is notorious.
