We’ve heard nothing about Deus Ex since January this year, so it was a reasonable assumption that Adam Jensen and his cybernetic modifications had been put out to pasture. That’s not quite true.
A Criminal Past does succeed in at least giving players a more unique experience within the confines of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided’s layered stealth systems, but the overall feeling is one that is at odds with itself. The freedom to explore, but juxtaposed against a more restrictive and limited system of features that is ready to do its porridge in the big house.
According to sources over at Eurogamer, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided would have told a more complete story, with the narrative eventually being chopped as production grew to an unreasonably massive size over the five years of development. Which probably explains the utter anti-climatic ending for Mankind Divided. It's a pity we may never have any real resolution.
