What are the most anticipated games of 2009?

By Gavin Mannion

A lot of people have said that 2009 isn’t going to live up to the standards that 2008 set in gaming and that we have a pretty dry year ahead of us. Well personally I have to disagree as Uncharted 2, MW2, Assassin’s Creed 2 and Battlefield Bad Company 2 make for a great year for me. But apparently this …

Times are hard and I think every one of us is at the very least aware of the economic crisis the world is currently going through, so to see what has been happening over at the local PS3 forums really is quite special. A forumite by the name of M21 has started a quite unique craze at the moment of …

Earlier today I was browsing the local PS3 Forums and came across a thread about White Label games and the legality around them. The thread has now been locked as it seemed to drift into the personal accusation stage which is never pretty but it did raise an interesting point that has been cleared up for me by one of …

With all of the community games now becoming available on Xbox live, we can get excited about playing some new and interesting titles, and at a reasonable price point of 400 or 200 MS points. But it seems not everyone is happy with the price point, in fact Nathan Fouts, ex-Insomniac employee and creator of Weapon of choice – by …

Exclusive: Gears of War 2 Map DLC Blocked in RSA

Gow2SAMapsIP.jpg This entire story with the Gears of War 2 Map Packs in South Africa have been a bit of a complete bummer for all of us. While we can assure you that we are still hard at work with our mission to try and get map codes to all South Africans, regardless of the odds, something very interesting (and not good) has arisen. A lot of South Africans have been buying map pack codes from various different sources so that they can all join in the flashback fun. A friend of mine (Let's call him "Bartleby") bought a code this weekend and was incredibly disappointed to get home and find out that the availability of the downloadable maps has come to an end. Just like the issue that we had with the first Gears of War, our IP's are now being blocked, meaning that they are no longer accessible to anyone in this country. We have previously posted up a very clever way to get around the restrictions but either way, it's still not good news to hear. Please know that we are still working on getting answers with regards to the map codes but for now we ask you to all sit tight until we can get you anymore solid information.

media.jpeg Here is something interesting. It seems that Universal Pictures and Sony have signed a deal to make a whole bunch of crazy new vending machines that will contain not Blu-rays, DVD's, games and all other sorts of media. At the moment, the vending machines are only planned for the UK. According to a report from Stuff.tv: "The PoP “entertainment vending machine” is a brand new venture between Universal Pictures and Sony entertainment to allow punters to grab their favourite DVDs, Blu-ray discs, PS3 games and downloads 24/7." At launch, they plan to have 150 movie titles available. What I think is really great is that you will also be able to download music and movies directly to your MP3/movie straight from the machine and even watch trailers to help you decide if the movie is worth the purchase. When they arrive, they will be available in cinemas, universities, gyms and some travel stations. A new era for software distribution maybe? All I know is that they had better have those things bolted down to the floor pretty tightly.
