Nvidia’s new GTX 1660 balances power usage, performance and cost

Nvidia recently revealed its new 1660Ti, which is a Turing-based card like the new RTX ones – only without the stuff that makes the latest Turning cards interesting and appealing. Now, there’s a another card. The 1660 without the Ti bit on the end is available from today, coming in at a very palatable £199/ $219. The suggested local pricing is around R3699 including VAT.

Nvidia has gone and bought tech company and fellow chip-manufacturer Mellanox. The deal will see the conglomerate acquire all of the Israeli chip-maker’s issued and outstanding common shares for $125 each, a share portion to amounts to around $6.9 billion. Today Nvidia announces the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti, a brand new card for the mid-range market that replaces both the outgoing GTX 1060 6GB and the GTX 1070 8GB. It does so without really pushing either card out the way because it lacks the additional 2GB of VRAM that the GTX 1070 boasts, but it's just fast enough to make the GTX 1060 6GB look like the worse deal.
