Video games are a timesink, lengthy campaigns that last far beyond launch week. In an age where many a developer wants a single game to provide months if not years of live service content that continues to bring in revenue, only a few games really prove to be worth the time and investment that the crowded genre demands.
Red Dead Online is officially ready to part from the Red Dead Redemption 2 posse and ride solo. The multiplayer add-on to Rockstar’s yeehaw sandbox, Red Dead Online won’t be going free to play but it’ll still be a lot cheaper than the traditional game, if interacting with dodgy online cowboys who all have anime references for names is more to your liking.
The old west is full of clowns right now. I’m not talking gullible settlers who were duped into buying a bottle of snake oil or prospectors seeking their fortune in dangerous mines and finding nothing but fool’s gold, but actual clowns. Gangsters in grease paint, black hat harlequins and beefy buffoons who have taken to the Red Dead Online servers to protest.
According to the publisher, speaking in its quarterly earnings call (via Seeking Alpha), "Red Dead Online is performing better than Grand Theft Auto Online did at the same stage of the game."
Red Dead Online may be a great way to spend an afternoon, pretending to be a cowboy who is making his fortune in a hostile new frontier, but it certainly isn’t easy to do so when the map happens to be populated with all manner of black-hatted griefers. Developer Rockstar Games is looking to curb this destructive attitude in the next big update.
As well constructed as Red Dead Online is, its current incarnation is still one that needs a mountain of fine-tuning to get it feeling just right. The solution? Several, as Rockstar Games revealed on their blog how they intend to whip Red Dead Online into shape.
Despite some fears about what might happen after beta, Rockstar has confirmed that it has no plans to wipe player data when the transition eventually happens.
