Google is working with Vale to bring the Steam platform to their own Linux-flavoured OS.

Rumours about a new Left 4 Dead game have been circulating around parts of the internet for years. Turtle Rock and Valve’s quasi-AI directed games about killing zombies were an absolute blast to play co-operatively, and fans have been clamouring for a sequel. While games like World War Z have filled in that niche a little, they don’t quite compare to the thrills, spills and double kills from Left 4 Dead.

And their plan involves overhauling what has become a notoriously clunky system.

While everyone began hedging their bets on the auto-battler genre in 2019, it seems that maybe the whole thing was just a flash in the pan.

The stigma around mobile games won’t be dispelled with just that handful of examples though, a point made abundantly clear back when BlizzCon 2018 kicked off with the announcement of Diablo Immortal and saw the harshest of fan backlash thrown right back at the legendary developer. It’s a moment of infamy, and one that rival company Riot Games were terrified of repeating when they announced their own slate of games last year that just so happened to include a mobile project of their own.

Valve’s MOBA has earned its lowest average player count since 2014, now placing it below Counter-Strike: Global Offensive’s peak and average players.

Could Half-Life: Alyx come to console, especially the PS4 and its PSVR hardware? Probably not anytime soon.
