There are “no plans” for a Virtual console on the Nintendo Switch

Every system since the Wii has had Virtual console in some form, allowing owners to buy games for older consoles to play on their new ones. Before the Switch was released, rumours and murmurs suggested that we’d see Gamecube games on the Switch. It doesn’t look like a Virtual Console is happening. At least, not like the Virtual Console we’ve come to know.

Pokémon Gold and Silver were the games that really explored the concept of pocket monsters. Whereas Pokémon Red and Blue were limited by the technology of the original Game Boy, Gold and Silver built on the foundation that Pokémon Yellow had started on the Game Boy Colour and improved on the formula massively.

When you look back at the purest of Pokémon games, they look downright savage in comparison to the 3D spectacles that we have today. The core gameplay is still the same, as the first games introduced the formula of hyper-quick battles with an RPG system. Classic, fantastic stuff. And now the originals are coming home to the 3DS.
