Run DMC becomes one of those people who live in a white house

By Nick De Bruyne

To promote Wii Music in America, Nintendo have released this clip of Run DMC messing around with the game. Once again, I find it really strange that all of these overly happy Wii gamers all live in houses that have white interiors as well as an odd habit of being overly excited about life. It all goes to pot when the kids arrive and everyone is swept up in the amazing experience that is Wii Music. I know I sound incredibly sarcastic about the games value but I still just cannot see the game actually being played more than a few times in most households.

Activision looking to profit from User Content in GH: World Tour

By Nick De Bruyne

This has me kind of worried to be honest. Kotaku report that: "Bobby Kotick, CEO of Activision Blizzard, noted during today's quarterly earnings conference call that the publisher may begin charging for user-generated songs uploaded through Guitar Hero World Tour's GH Tunes service. Kotick has previously stated that GH Tunes has the "potential" to be one of the 'credible alternatives to iTunes.' " I want to jump the gun here and say that Activision are just seeing nothing but dollar signs but we have yet to see if any of the users will be able to benefit from their own creations. If they don't then I am not going to be a happy camper. Profiting directly from content created by users is something that goes a little overboard in my opinion and the fact that the songs won't even have lyrics makes me wonder if it will all be worth it. As reported by Kotaku, Activision knows exactly how much money can be made from subscription based services such as World of Warcraft but I don't see this as a step forward for gamers at all. The content should be free and available to anyone who buys the game. If something like this catches on you could see scenarios were all publishers start charging for the ability to access user created content.

For a company sitting pretty at the top of the gaming market, Nintendo has had a lot to say lately about its standing with core gamers. Now come assurances from yet another source that, no, Nintendo has definitely not “lost its passion” for core gamers. Last Updated: October 31, 2008

Ubisoft are one of the biggest and most succesful gaming megatrons in the industry and as such it is interesting to see where they are making their money as I think it is a key indicator of where the makers of the Tom Clancy series are going to be focussing their future development. So when they released their latest financials …

1UP scores Wii Music 91/100 – Did I Miss Something?

By Nick De Bruyne

wiiMusic.jpg I am not entirely sure what the deal is with Wii Music. How can you call something a game when you have such little affect on what is actually going on. To be honest, it looks as if I could get the same experience out of switching the radio on and handing out a couple of household goods to my friends and telling them to pretend that they are playing instruments. While there are currently only three reviews on Metacritic for Wii Music ( The other two being Gamespy: 70/100 and IGN: 50/100) I was rather amazed to see that 1UP had scored it a 91. It's starting to make me wonder if being a gamer means the same thing as it did a couple of years back. The short except from the review says the following: "Wii Music may have a hard time winning over the skeptics who just want to laugh at it, but give the game the chance it deserves. You just might realize it's pretty damn fun being in on the joke." Am I one of those skeptics that she is talking about? Maybe. I won't know until I have tried it. To score it in the same range as titles such as Resident Evil 4, Okami and Metroid Prime 3 just feels off to me. But hey, what the hell do I know, I am not one of the gazillion people out there who have forked out money on the Wii, even though they barely know how to turn a PC on. Maybe now that gaming has finally taken off, hardcore gamers are going to feel even more alienated than we were before. Maybe I should buy Wii Music. I don't want to feel left when all of my aunts start talking about it.
