Red Alert's Girls and Grandpa's: Shame on you EA

By Nick De Bruyne

Meet the cast of the upcoming Red Alert 3 title from EA games. As most of you will know, Red Alert is apart of the almighty Command & Conquer series of real time strategy games initially created by Westwood back in the 90's. It seems to be the latest trend to just straight-out abuse the use of hot women to get your sales up, so try and close your eyes when they come up on screen, we need to fight the system. Since I know that you aren't actually going to do then I would like to point out that EA has done it for you. That's right, they are actually holding footage of the girls back to push sales. Find out more after the jump. They tease us with some quick shots of all the woman that they have handpicked (you should recognise most of them) to target all the pale, lonely people only to let us know that we need to buy the "premium edition" to see more. That's a pretty cheap trick if you ask me, heck they make it as if the special edition is going to come with some form of pornography bundled in. While the men aren't nearly as appealing to most of us as the women, I am happy to see that they have signed up some really awesome talent to play out the roles in the video cutscenes that all C&C fans have grown to love so much. So good on you EA, and shame on you at the same time...

Internet Explorer on Xbox 360? It could happen, there might be proof, it could be right in front of us. During the new welcome video that Microsoft have on the Xbox website, a quarter of the way when they scroll through the new sections, there is a section called browse. It cuts to the next shot before we have a …

Xbox Live Downtime Reminder – 28 September

By Nick De Bruyne

Just a reminder to any users of Xbox Live that the service will be down from 10am to 10pm today. So if you get home and fail to log on, don't get angry and don't throw your router out the window because it's just Microsoft is performing some maintenance. You may remember that last week we reported that Xbox Live would be down and that it will only be down for maintenance and preparations for the new dashboard, so don't think that you will be creating any avatars anytime soon. I know that tomorrow will be tough for some but don't worry, you'll be ok. Whip out all of those single player games that you always promised to finish and get the job done. Look on the brightside, you will probably be able to rack up a decent amount of achievements. I know it's a long shot, but you could maybe even try going outside a bit. I know it's a strange concept to most of you but apparently it's not so bad. I wouldn't know, I've never tried it.

Test Drive The New Xbox Dashboard Experience

By Nick De Bruyne

nxe.jpg If you haven't visited Xbox.com recently, you wouldn't have noticed that a few changes have taken place. Microsoft have now added the ability to try out the new Xbox Dashboard Experience within their website by simulating the interface using flash. It does a pretty decent job of showing you how its going to work on a basic level but we are going to have wait for it's release before we get to fiddle around with all of the functions. Seeing that we don't really get to choose whether or not we want to switch to the new interface, we can at least start warming up to the idea. I personally think that the new dashboard is looking fantastic compared to the current one and the avatars aren't looking bad at all. Throw in the party system and 8 player conference chat and I am pretty much completely sold.

Fable 1 vs Fable 2 – Video Comparison

By Nick De Bruyne

When I think back to my time spent in the original Fable, I really am left with nothing but fond memories. While the original game does bring back good memories, all of my brains functions are now focused on being excited for Fable 2 and all of the new and wonderful things that it is promising to deliver. Whether or not it does actually deliver is yet to be seen but what we can do for now is take a look at this video comparison from gametrailers. In this comparison we get a good look at just how big the difference between the original and the sequel is. While the sequel is looking absolutely gorgeous, what really amazes me is that the first game still looks so decent, even when put next to its HD, Next-Gen brother.

Is the 360 really just a waste of time?

By Gareth

It appears that yet another blogger who seems to have no idea what he is talking about, has felt the urge to trash one of the major consoles publicly. He rants off saying that he has finally decided to switch to the PS3 after constant disappointments from Microsoft have left him feeling cheated. The problem is, that it’s currently one …

The Force Unleashed Breaks Sales Record Despite Low Review Scores

By Nick De Bruyne

The Force Unleashed broke two sales records this week by becoming the fastest-selling Star Wars title as well as the fastest selling Lucasarts title in the history of the company. Despite a Metacritic average of a measly 72 (of a possible 100) for Xbox 360 and 69 for the Playstation 3 it has managed to push out a massive 1.5 million copies in it's first five days on the shelves. Not only does this give us all a good display of how powerful a brand can be, but also how brands and marketing are able to trump review scores almost every time. I reviews the game on Xbox 360 for this site and I can honestly say that I am glad that people are buying it, mostly because I think that it's a fine game and one that a casual console gamer will easily enjoy. The fact of the matter is that review scores can only go so far and to be honest, most of the consumers out there don't read game reviews. It's only the hardcore gamers that keep themselves up to date with review scores, not the casuals. In this day and age, which has gaming taking over as the largest entertainment industry we have to realise that the casuals are overtaking us regular gaming folk. Then again, how many people rush out to watch new movies without taking a look at the review scores either, I know I do. Games cost a ton more than movie tickets though, which means that an impulse-buy could sting significantly more if the game is not all that you had hoped.
