Is Xbox Live Gold needed in this day and age of the Microsoft eco-system push? Rumours have been circulating that the company is looking to do away with Xbox Live Gold and replace it with a free online service that would drive the numbers up more on Game Pass subscriptions, something which Microsoft has flatout denied.

Back in 2016, Microsoft increased the local price of Xbox Live and its associated services, to align with the local exchange rate a little better. At the time, it was around R11 to the Dollar, but Xbox Live Gold – which cost $10 a month – was available for about R50 a month. The price was raised to R159, sparking outrage.
