Assassin's Creed 2 in 2009 – Super Sequel Or Flop Of The Year?

2 min read

While all of us pretty much knew it already, it has finally been officially announced that Assassins Creed 2 will indeed be coming at the end of this year.

Most of us had pretty much the same issues with the first Assassin’s Creed now didn’t we? The game looked fantastic, the controls were decent enough but why, oh why did the developers think that making gamers do the same crappy tasks over and over again was a good idea. It’s as if they spent so much time creating the tech behind the game that they actually forgot they had to fit in the rest as well, and so rushed it out at the last second.

So with so many of us disappointed with the first game, should we even be getting excited for the second?

My answer is: Definitely.

More after the jump.

You see, the thing is that Ubisoft felt the sting after the release of their “amazing” next-gen title when review after review pounded it for being so shallow and repetitive. My guess, is that, unless the developers are a bunch of blithering idiots, they have realised that the sequel needs to be so much more than that.

With that in mind, I think that they are probably going to be putting a lot more time and effort into making a deep and engaging game with far more elements, and with most of the tech already in place, they should be able to do just that.

I could be completely wrong, but I hope I am not. The general feeling after playing the first Assassins Creed was that there was definitely something special there, but it fell short for so many reasons. I’m going to give Ubisoft another chance and say that they may just have a winner on their hands this time around.

I’d be interested to hear what our readers think, so drop us a comment below.

:wassat: Well there isn’t much to actually get hyped over this game

Look at the trailers for X-Men Origins: Wolverine and Batman: Arkham Asylum. Now that’s how you get the hype going for a game :w00t: :w00t: :w00t: :w00t: :w00t: :w00t: :w00t:

There won’t be much seeing as the game only got officially announced today….. :face:

  • Macethy

If I could i would pre-order this game TODAY!!!

  • Scotty777

this was one of the few games I’ve actually finished  ha ha, it did get repetitive but I enjoyed it.

  • assasin

the first game was great but it got so repetitive and frustrating i had to turn off my ps3 before i started breaking stuff which is how most people felt im sure.
But i cant wait for second one! lightning never strikes twice right?

  • dewej

it wouldve made a bettermovie than a game, beautiful visuals and cinimtic gameplay was almost better to watch then play, ubisoft arent stupid im sure the next one will be brilliant

In Ubisoft’s defence if you look at all the games they release the also setup a webforum for the game. They tend to listen to the feedback and 9 out of 10 times the sequel is improved.
I loved the first assassin’s creed (apart from the repetative nture of the game), I’m just hoping that they inprove on the first game and add some variation.

  • me

I loved the first game. It never got that repetitive for me and besides if you like what you do and see you don’t mind how many times you do it. They can keep the formula and just improve it in some aspects which I’m sure they will.

  • Stephen

yeah that’s right somebody who knows what he is talking about right here Ubisoft makes good games they probably just didn’t know what to do for Assassins Creed so everybody just give them a break because they deserve it.

i had a bad experience with this game. i thought it would be a PoP game with next gen graphics, set in the middle east with added sneaking gameplay and a bit more of a open world but the game didnt have the fun and deep gameplay the PoP games have and i got fed up within the 1st hr. its a shame cuz the story was so intriguing.

ill wait for reviews and check out the demo 1st on this 1, besides, there are lots of awesome ps3 and multi plat games being released this year that have captivated my interest way more. ghostbusters, uncharted2, fnr4, R&C and many more.

I pretty much feel about this similarly to how you do. The first game was really repetitive but the overall formula was very fun and intruiging and after reading the article on Ass2 in GI I feel confident that the second installment will be a major improvement over the first and that it will be worth my time. 😀 at least I hope it will.

Um why does a game become boring just because you do similar things over and over again?. the amount of different combos in that game was amazing. You had multiple choice scenarios, added tidbits along the way, and a great storyline to boot.

if you break apart any game it will still have the same basic game play mechanics. take Resident evil 5, the game play only consists of a few different moves. shoot push back, run away, aim, shoot. In every game you will eventually rinse and repeat something.

  • phantom

just an addition, did you play it non stop until you
finished? if so that probably explains things LOL. everything gets boring if you do it over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.

    MODERATION IS KEY &

Maybe I’m not an average gamer, I’m certainly not “average” by any stretch of the imagination, but I played it and watched my friend play it all the way through. Though it was repetitive, it was certainly fun, so I can’t help but be excited about #2.

  • I’m really looking forward to it. Can’t wait.

  • Arc316

We all expect ubisoft to learn not to make it repetitive, but didn’t they make the same mistake with far cry 2?
