Are you ready for an all-female EXPENDABLES?

With The Expendables 2 releasing last Friday, along with testosterone-laden trailers for Stallone’s Bullet To The Head and Schwarzenegger’s The Last Stand, you’d be forgiven for thinking Hollywood’s gone macho man mad. But as we’ve seen this year alone with The Hunger Games, Snow White and the Huntsman, Haywire and even Expendables 2 with the inclusion of new cast member Yu Nan, sisters are definitely still doing it for themselves. “It” being kicking ass and taking names.

So  it should only be expected then that Hollywood has now set it’s sights on some Expenda-Belles!

Producer Adi Shankar may be coming off a couple of pretty manly projects in the form of Joe Carnahan’s The Grey (aka Liam Neeson fights Mother Nature) as well as helping Thomas Jane to make Dirty Laundry, the ultra-violent Punisher short film that almost melted the internet a month back, but his 1984 Private Defense Contractors production company has tapped newcomer writer Dutch Southern (Yes, that is the real name of a real person) to draft a script for an all-female version of The Expendables.

At this point, no possible story scenarios or cast suggestions have been dropped although Variety reports that Shankar’s company “is already in talks with several prominent actresses affiliated with the action genre.”

Expendables 2 director Simon West has already said in the past that he would be open to a female version of his movie, dropping names such as Angelina Jolie, Cameron Diaz, Milla Jovovich, Hellen Mirren and Jamie Lee Curtis as possible estrogened  exterminators.

Cameron Diaz?! I’m sorry, but two movies of bad wire-fu in high-heels does not make you an action hero. In my opinion there’s simply no way you can put together a team of cinematic female ass kickers without the ladies that blazed that trail: Sigourney Weaver, Linda Hamilton, Lucy Lawless and Cynthia Rothrck. If you want to include some younger stars then Angelina Jolie, Milla Jovovich, Michelle Yeoh and newcomer Gina Carano would certainly also fit the bill.

So what would your dream female Expendables cast look like?

I thought about Buffy, but as great as Whedon’s writing for the character was, I never ever bought Sarah Michelle Gellar’s tough girl act. She just never looked comfortable with the physical side of stuff. Faith though, I’d definitely give the nod to.

The main appeal to Expendables is its cast. If this movie franchise did not have Lundgren, Li, Norris or Schwarzenegger (and even GASP Van Damme) then this movie most likely would not have held the appeal it does.
So if they do make an Expenda-belles (Nice one, KErvyn) I would go with action stars from yesteryear. But my question would be this: Are there any female action stars that have the same fame as a Stallone or Schwarzenegger?
And by the Gods, if they include Cameron bloody Diaz in this, I will fly to Hollywood and kick everyone involved in this movie squarely in the nuts!

Apparently she was to be used in this one. But screen tests showed her too be manly…
