Sony is planning to get beastly with some MANIMAL!

In a form of self-imposed reverse one-upmanship, after recently announcing that they were making an ALF movie, Sony Animations is now planning to adapt Manimal, an 80’s show you’ve probably never seen except to point and laugh at.

What’s that? You going to have to speak up as I can’t hear you over all the noise that’s being made as the bottom of this barrel gets scraped clean through.

The original series aired in 1983 and Sam MacCorkindale as “Dr. Jonathan Chase, a wealthy doctor with a mysterious past, who morphed into animals in order to help the police fight crime.” And by animals they meant just a panther or a hawk. And by morph, they mean show you an animation sequence that is pure undiluted nightmare fuel. The show had just 8 episodes broadcast before it was yanked from airwaves after getting mauled by the ratings and critics.

And now it’s going to be made into a movie. Yep, that makes perfect business sense.

THR reports that Sony Pictures Animation is planning to produce a live action/CGI hybrid feature film with prolific 1908’s TV producer the show’s original creator, Glen A. Larson (Knight Rider, Magnum P.I.) also producing this one. There’s no word yet on either a cast or writer and director, but whoever they are, they’re going to have one hell of a tough time beating this for pure entertainment value:

Did I say entertainment value? I meant to say Oh dear God, I’m never sleeping again!

Nope, according to Wikipedia that was Chuck Wagner. Both shows were created by Glen A. Larson though.
