Good grief! Is the Peanuts gang headed to the big screen?

32 years. That’s how long it’s been since Charlie Brown and the Peanuts gang last shuffled onto screen with terrible dance moves and satanic pumpkin rituals. And considering how beloved that series of strips is, it’s amazing that it’s taken this long for the blockhead to return.

But with a 65th anniversary of the late Charles Schulz just three years away, it looks like we might be getting an all new film based on those loveable kids.

20th Century Fox and Blue Sky Studios have teamed up to bring Peanuts back to the big screen, grabbing Steve “Ice Age: Continental Drift” Martino to help guide the project.

Snoopy, Charlie Brown, Lucy and the rest of the gang will feature in a new tale written by Craig Schulz, Bryan Schulz and Cornelius Uliano, giving the flick a family tie-in in the production department.

“We have been working on this project for years. We finally felt the time was right and the technology is where we need it to be to create this film,” Craig Schulz said in a statement. “I am thrilled we will be partnering with Blue Sky/Fox to create a Peanuts movie that is true to the strip and will continue the legacy in honour of my father.”

Oh dear, I hope that doesn’t mean that this film will be a 3D CGI one, as there’s no way that those specific brush strokes from the original Schulz will translate well to that medium.

Right now, the film has a screen date of November 25, 2015, in order to tie into the 65th anniversary that was mentioned earlier. Ad while it will probably be the usual story of pop psychology for a quarter and a dog pretending to be a fighter pilot, I’m kinda hoping that the film takes a cue or two from my favourite webcomic instead.

The one that has a grown-up Charlie Brown waging a one man war against assorted comic strip characters and a homicidal CAL-V.1N and H.O.B.B.E.S.
