Ridley Scott to produce a dozen sci-fi web short films

Look, if you’re going to make a movie that will be recorded in a cinema by a dodgy chap with a camera technique honed by epileptic monks with Parkinson disease, you might as well cut out the pirating middle-man and shove said content straight onto the net.

That’s just what Ridley Scott is going to be doing, as he’ll be producing a dozen new films that will be making their presence felt on the world wide web soon.

Partnering up with Web content tyrant Machinima, Scott will be helping to build 12 original sci-fi shorts that will be distributed online. “Partnering with Ridley Scott to work with his talented directors shows Machinima’s dedication to going above and beyond in delivering quality original content for our audience to embrace,” said Allen DeBevoise, Chairman, Co-founder and CEO at Machinima, Inc.

By combining this unique incubation model together with our powerful partnership of established creative talent and scaled distribution to millions on Machinima, we believe new sci-fi franchises will be born. “RSA has always been at the forefront of creating innovative work. With new media transforming the way audiences connect with films and filmmakers, Machinima is a great partner for us as we embark on this new model of delivering original content to fans. It’s a tremendous opportunity for pushing the creative boundaries for both our filmmakers and the audience,” said Ridley Scott.

Right now, the plan is to find twelve directors to helm these shorts, which Scott and his associates will choose. There’s a massive wealth of talent out there operating on the online space that platforms such as YouTube and Vimeo have created. I’m just hoping that Freddy Wong gets a call soon, to put his unique talents to work.

I’m already pitching an idea to Scott. It’s about a giant space donut that roams the cosmos, crushing people who can’t understand that running in 90 degree directions spells doom for them. I’m going to be huge!
