We’ve already seen the first teaser trailer for Marvel and Netflix’s Daredevil TV series and what we saw was dark and gritty. But mostly dark. Seriously, there was very inadequate lighting in many of those scenes. Why can’t these mask-wearing vigilantes carry around a nice lantern or two? Maybe a headlamp?

Luckily, we have some new *ahem* enlightening pics that have just been released for the upcoming series which sees Charlie Cox starring as blind lawyer Matt Murdock and his titular superhero alter ego. As Daredevil, Murdock will see himself going up against arch-nemesis Wilson Fisk aka The Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio), who we’ve just got our first official look at thanks to USA Today.

In the comics, Kingpin is a monster of a man standing 6ft7 and weighing about the same as small hatchback. Standing at 6ft5 and being built like a silverback gorilla, the late Michael Clark Duncan did a fantastic job of approximating that physical prowess on-screen in the the unrelated 2003 Daredevil feature film starring Ben Affleck. But D’Onofrio is definitely no slouch himself, having added about 14 kgs of muscle mass to his already sizeable 115kg 6ft3 frame. Combine that additional physicality with D’Onofrio’s talent for playing unhinged characters (see: Full Metal Jacket) and that adds a very dangerous element to this version of the Kingpin, as the actor explained.

“I just brought in this kind of character who in one sentence could easily go from being a child to a monster, depending on where his emotions take him… I wanted him to have an appearance of being super-powerful so that when he throws a punch, it’s a major punch. There’s a lot of weight behind it.”
Along with Kingpin, some other pics have also dropped (via JoBlo) giving us our first official looks at Deborah Ann Woll as Matt Murdock’s love interest Karen Page, Elden Henson as Murdock’s law-firm partner and best friend Foggy Nelson, and Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple, aka the Night Nurse, a medical practitioner that offers her anonymous services to the many masked heroes in the Marvel comic book universe. And of course Charlie Cox running around in his pre-red suit, black pyjamas doing his best Dread Pirate Roberts impersonation.

“Marvel’s Daredevil” follows the journey of Matt Murdock, who was blinded as a young boy but imbued with extraordinary senses, now fighting against injustice by day as a lawyer, and by night as the super hero Daredevil in modern day Hell’s Kitchen, New York City.

Daredevil‘s 13-episode first season will be hitting all regions on Netflix on April 10, 2015.

So if they introduce the Night Nurse in this, do you guys think they would introduce Leo Zelinsky to make his suit as well?
