Classic TV series The A-Team is getting a modern day remake. Again.

Created by prolific TV producer Stephen J. Cannell in the 1980’s, the original saw a quartet of disavowed ex-military men – played by Dirk Benedict, George Peppard, Dwight Schultz and Mr. T – who went around helping out random folks as they tried to clear their names of a crime they didn’t commit. In 2010 Joe Carnahan directed a modern day movie adaptation that saw Bradley Cooper, Liam Neeson and Sharlto Copley and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson as the new versions of Face, Hannibal, Murdock and  B.A. Baracus. The movie was only fractionally successful though, earning just $177 million off a $110 million budget (and that’s before factoring in advertising costs), but apparently somebody over in Hollywood thinks there’s still life left in the franchise.

Deadline is reporting that 20th Century Fox TV are now developing a new modern day TV series revival of the property which will be executive produced by Fast & Furious writer-producer Chris Morgan alongside Cannell’s daughter, TV director Tawnia McKiernan, while this new TV series will be penned by Sleepy Hollow executive producer/scribe Albert Kim.

Like the previous incarnations of The A-Team, this new show will also revolve around four falsely accused ex-Special Forces operatives, but unlike the classic all-male affair this time it will be a mixture of men and women. There’s no word yet on just who will be what gender this time around, but it would actually be pretty progressive to see the womanizing Face’s role be flipped around. In the same breath though, I must just add that as0 progressive a guy as I would think I am, I don’t think the little boy version of me that grew up on The A-Team is quite ready to see a lady B.A. Baracus stomping on some sucker fools quite yet.

However the roles eventually play out, once again this group “has been framed for a crime they didn’t commit and set out to clear their names by uncovering the black-ops conspiracy that set them up. Along the way, they are driven to help those in need by using their singular military skills, high-tech expertise and often conflicting individual approaches.”

This new take on the show is being described as “a fun episodic mission-of-the-week show that mixes big action-adventure sequences with compelling characters, inventive cons and lots of humor”. There’s no indication of a timetable for this new adaptation yet, so we no idea when this plan is coming together.

  1. I’d like to see a female bat-shit-crazy Murdock.

A female Face, or female Murdock would be cool!
